To cure problems with PDF program association - depending on the OS:
1.) Vista
- download and run UNASSOC (it does not need to be installed);
- navigate to ".pdf" and delete the entry;
- open the Reader and let it be repaired
Help => Repair Adobe Reader installation.

2.) XP:
- open "Folder Options" (from the Explorer or the Control Panel);
- open the tabbed page "File Types";
- navigate to PDF;
- use the "Delete" button to remove PDF from the lost;
- run a repair (as above).
