| RE: right click "C" drive My Computer hangs OK so I've been wonking on this issue and some really weird stuff has just
happened. Not sure what it means and maybe the information provided below
will help those of you with bigger brains than me identify the cause of this
particular problem.
1) Used shellexview to disable all non-microsoft and 2 items that were "Yes"
in the My computer column.
1a) tried right clicking - got "Not responding"
2) Was Trying to Use task manager to Identify spikes in CPU usage ~29%
nothing significant. Seems some critical systems only.
2a) tried right clicking - got "Not responding" multiple times.
3) Through all this the only way to cancel what was happening was to use
task manager to "End Task"
4) Now I left the My computer window open for a few minutes [not previously
done] while researching this problem and some of the services [ I had tried
to end some critical process to no avail :) ]
5) When I right -clicked this time I the actual drop down occured and I
could access the File menu as well but immediately the "windows has
encountered a problem" box popped up. While that box was up I could navigate
the file menu and the drop down. As soon as I clicked "don't send" the "My
computer" task ended itself as if I had gone to task mgr myself.
6) Trying to reproduce. The only variables were trying to kill some
critical process (like I said to no avail) and leaving the window open for
some time prior to attempting a right click.
Maybe this will help some of you who really know what is going on behind the
"smoke and mirrors" of the microsoft os :)
Still can reprodce
