Suggestions for a RELIABLE way to get GPS data into an XP tablet

I am not sure bluetooth is going to work too well, if the tablet is
switched off/on. Certainly this plays havoc with every pocket/pc PDA
I've tried (various Ipaqs incl a 5450, Toshiba E800) with all of
TomTom, OziExplorer, MemoryMap. None of these applications resync
reliably if the device is powered down and then up again. A soft reset
is usually required.

There are few if any 802.11 wifi GPS receivers. A piece of wire maybe?

Is the problem in the application, in the bluetooth drivers, or in the
bluetooth protocol generally?
