neelv is on a distinguished road
difficulty installing Java 6 Update 11 on Windows XP

1) I had Java installed and functioning properly on my system. I uninstalled all the old versions and then tried to update to the latest version from the official java site and had the following error...

HKEY_local_machine\software\javasoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.5.0_09

This is the error message I get when I double click the Java icon from control panel.

2) Well, someone told me to run JavaRa, which I did and reinstalled Java. Then Checked control panel...there is no java icon.

Restarted the computer, checked control panel..no java icon. No java option in internet explorer - internet options

3) Then someone said to install java from the desktop, I did that with the same result

4) One thing, on the screen which says java successfully installed there is a message saying that "JavaFX runtime will be downloaded when you click Finish" but nothing happens after I click Finish. Not sure if this is an important step.

5) I have tried to test for java at the official website. http://www.java.com/en/

All it does is keep testing....the green circle and the msg "The page should refresh and display your environment within 10-60 sec. If it is taking longer, your browser may not be using the latest JRE or there is a problem with your installation. "

Then after a minute or so a box pops up saying that the page you are viewing requires java. I click ok and another box pops up "Connect to www.java.com" saying "The server at www.java.com Sun Java System Web Server requires a username and password"

Then I click cancel and it goes to Installing Java page... the place where the dancing duke logo is suppose to appear is blank.. indicating no java installed.

6) I have checked Add/Remove programs which shows that Java 6 update 11 is installed 96MB, used rarely.

But still no icon in control panel. Cannot run any java related stuff.

thanks, any help is appreciated.
