The spell checker is a component of Office, not of Outlook Express. In
Office 2007, English, Spanish and German spell checkers are incompatible
with Outlook Express.
To fix this, install ONLY the English Language Proofing Tools from Office
2003. If you want to activate the product, probably a good idea, then
install Word 2003, run it once, say "yes" to product activation, and then
remove Word 2003 or from within custom Office Setup make it "not available".
Word 2003 and Word 2007 do not play well together.
This has been beat to death in microsoft.public.msn.discussion. It seems
that the same problem affects MSN Explorer email client too. If you call
Office Customer Support they will tell you to install a free (non-Microsoft)
spell checker. Google "free spell checker" if you want to go this route. I
prefer to use the Office 2003 English Language Proofing Tools, since I had
already paid for them.
