are you sure they are 1G modules and not 512K modules
make sure the memory modules have the same speed etc.
if you bought matched 1G modules (which you should have done) ensure they
are properly placed in the mobo, usually in alternate slots
how much memory does the BIOS report
try turning off memory interleaving
