One of the reasons I went to Linux. Even with the many issues in Linux
I stayed with it since with a little effort you can manage it without
puting up with this type of crap. Eventually, these things will happen.

There will be a universal package manager.

All the installs will be place in the same folders between distros

Most of the mfg will have out of the box software and drivers.

And you may see Linux versions for most commercial software like
photoshop. Nero is already there.

Even though it runs under its own version of wine Picassa runs under
Linux and does it well.
