The update attempt is going to continue to happen until the update is
successful, you tell Windows Update to remove the update from the update
list, or you manually install the update successfully.

You might want to take the manual route and shutdown everything during
this update, like AV(s) anti-spyware(s), etc etc everything that could
interfere with the update.

I have had no problems with the updates on Windows Vista. Maybe, one or
two I took over manually and was successful in the installation of the
update.
