No doubt the Windoze advocates will suggest "recover the data from backups",
but Windoze lacks a proper backup strategy, and most of the third-party
programs are useless.

Also (apparently) Windows also lacks tools for verifying the content of a
file - it can't even do a simple CRC / checksum, so the corruption of files
might not be noticed for some time, by which time the "good" originals are
long gone...
