Re: Zune and Vista Incompatibility?

Zune is not incompatible with Vista.

However, to install Zune software, you must turn OFF your third-party
firewall and turn ON the built-in Windows firewall, or the installation will
fail. This is not well-documented and Microsoft pretends to be ignorant
about the problem, but a little Googling will find lots of information about
it. This is not a Vista bug, but a specific design flaw in the Zune
software (and some other Microsoft products as well) that requires hooks
into the Windows firewall. Once the software is installed, you can turn OFF
the Windows firewall and turn ON your third-party solution and everything
will work fine.

Zune is happily installed on my Vista Business machine and works fine.

I need to get a new computer for my son and he informs me tonite that he
found out that his Zune is incompatible with Vista. I did research and
found that there is a fix for it, but the fix then causes problems for the
DVD or CD players installed. i.e. fix one thing, cause more problems.

Any suggestions? I would let him keep my laptop with XP on it but I need
it for work.

Is anyone happy with Vista? All I seem to read is that more people are
unhappy with it, nothing works with it, it's slower than XP, etc.
