The date and time was 5/16/2008 8:08 AM, and on a whim, KingMe pounded
out on the keyboard:

I would start by downloading SP3 instead:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
Then I would extract the files (dbl-clicking on the file). After that,
navigate to the \i386\update folder in the extracted location in a
command prompt. Type update /log:<path> , where <path> is where you
want the log file to be located. Make sure the path is the full path,
i.e. c:\sp3\log\
Then you can inspect the install failure more carfully.
