I am helping a friend who has a laptop.
He uses the mouse pad and I like to use the mouse.
I find that the only thing that happens when I plug and unplug the mouse is
a notice saying the mousepad is disabled (when mouse is plugged in) and the
mousepad is re-enabled (when I unplug the mouse.)
This reinforces your statement above.
