2007 for AMD was not a good year and the company struck a deal with IBM to forge an alliance against Intel . But does that mean we have to read about the rumor of a take-over again?
Wired published a quote from William Lefkowitz, an options strategist, "The takeover of AMD by IBM has been mentioned before and with AMD shares being so low, it might be a good time for IBM to acquire them."
Is this a wish or insider knowledge?
No, Wired has it right by saying, "But as many have pointed out, even though IBM has plenty of cash on hand, it has continued to distance itself from hardware in recent years, focusing instead on services and software. In 2004, IBM sold its computer business to Lenovo, and two years earlier, it pawned its hard drive business off on Hitachi. If IBM were to acquire AMD now, that would mean jumping right back into the cut throat hardware business."
