Akihabara News reports on the Toshiba Portégé R500. Two version will be available, the R500-11J and Portégé R500-11I.
According to DailyTech, "The two differ in storage options and weight. The 1.7 pound R500-11J comes equipped with a 64GB solid-state disk (SSD) and no optical drive. The 2.2 pound R500-11I uses a traditional 120GB, 5400 RPM HDD and an ultra-slim Super-Multi DVD burner."
Mike Elgan categorizes the R500 as a MacBook Air Killer. Naw. The system is missing a vital component - ink. GottaBeMobile points out that the R500 would be a perfect Tablet PC - but it is not. And the R400 should be a Tablet PC. There is no reason to release any notebook without ink features but manufacturers keep building notebooks.

Ultimately the R500 would be a great unit on anyone's lap but the system would be far superior if the unit was ink-enabled as well as touch-enabled.
