Pligg is finally a mature product and worthy of CMS consideration. My opinion was different several years ago. In fact, Pligg seemed slow and bothersome. Today, Pligg is perky, easy to install, easy to modify templates, and functions well enough to deserve greater attention.
The other day Pligg was installed on a new domain for Tux Reports; EnRumors is focused on only rumors rather than news. The site has acted as a means for me to try different features of Pligg and to test some of the modules.
Not everything works out of the box. The Arthemia theme was modified in some key areas. Initially, some of the language files were changed. The more complex ideas were reserved for the second day of working with the software. For example, the css for the images was changed, the templates for sidebar comments and top stories were also modified, and the main template on the front of the site was changed to remove a blemish only seen in Google Chrome.
Now that two days have been spent with Pligg, I’m thinking Technology Questions (TQ) or Tux Reports should have this available too. Pligg would act in conjunction with WordPress and vBulletin. The decision can be made later – not tonight. Tonight, I’m sleeping.
