WPtouch: The Required Plugin for WordPress Installations

by Layne Heiny on October 21, 2009

This headline may fool you. You might be thinking that no single plugin for WordPress is required. You’d be wrong, though. There are really important plugins, such as, Akismet or Apture. There are nice plugins for controlling excerpts or keeping statistics for your blog. However, WPtouch is the only required plugin I’ve come across for all WordPress installations.

According to the website:

More than just a plugin, WPtouch is an entire theme package for your WordPress website. Modeled after Apple’s app store design specs, WPtouch makes your WordPress website load lightning fast on touch mobile devices, show your content beautifully, all while not interfering with your regular theme.

The above quote may appear as hyperbole to anyone who has not installed the plugin. Even some doubters may avoid installing the plugin until testing it, but, WPtouch is one of the most exciting plugins because installation is easy, setup was complete in less than a minute, and anyone viewing this website with their iPhone can now see the stories in a clean manner. There is no more squinting.

There are now millions of people with Apple iPhones and other devices surfing the web – and you don’t want them to hit your site and become annoyed. Now, if only there was a nice plugin theme for vBulletin.

Install WPtouch today and let me know how you love the plugin.

This website uses IntenseDebate comments, but they are not currently loaded because either your browser doesn't support JavaScript, or they didn't load fast enough.

Another important plugin for administration (not for your visitors) is the wp-db-backup plugin.
