Drupal to WordPress 2.8.4 Conversion

by Layne Heiny on October 19, 2009

I spent a few hours converting Technology Questions to WordPress 2.8.4. The instructions may be found on the Social CMS Buzz website.

A new database was created for the WordPress installation and six tables from the drupal install were imported into the newly created database.

  • term_data
  • term_hierarchy
  • node
  • node_revisions
  • term_node
  • drupal_comments
  • Once I have the Thesis theme developed for the new installation and several title fixes are completed then I’ll move the installation over to the main domain.

I just fixed the images problem. It turned out that the settings for uploads in miscellaneous was incorrect. This is now fixed and I should be able to add images now. Some article links are still incorrect and this will have to fixed later (I'm tired right now) but at least a new 404 is online to help people understand that some links are bad ....
    • Hi Lanye, great to see that our tutorial helped you to convert the site to wordpress, it's always nice to see articles we wrote actually being useful to others :) Good luck with the new wordpress site.

Yes - your instructions were clear. The biggest challenge was exporting the data from the Drupal database because of the size of the tables. Setting a temporary site up first was the best plan of attack. Thanks again.

Files were moved to the main domain this morning. The database was changed to the new URL for the WordPress installation and the site is live. This comment is the first on the new WP version of TQ ;)
