After long periods of little movement in the browser arena, Microsoft is pushing forward with a new version of Internet Explorer 8. Is Microsoft delivering on the promise to ship builds more frequently?
ActiveWin published the details of the invitation letter. For what it is worth, the link in the email will take you to a page not found. Don't worry, the beta will evenutally become a public beta program. Fortunately, Mary Jo Foley provides more information: Microsoft plans to show off the browser at Mix '08 in March. The new "super standards" mode should also make its way into the new release. The updated User-Agent string was announced a few days ago on the IE Blog.Additionally, "a new menu option is available in beta versions that will enable the IE8 beta to masquerade as IE7 without restarting."
Back in December, the IEBlog posted IE 8 passed an Acid2 Face test. Can they do more now that Firefox 3.0 is getting ready for gold as well as compete against Safari's performance improvements?

This is a Public NG, we are all volunteers or enthusiasts.
Those of us who do know something more than the public are bound by NDA's.

IE8 is a new version of Internet Explorer, there is no new version of IE8 as
it is still in the development phase. There are of course revisions and beta
releases that will be rolled out in due course. Do a web search for the
definition of the acronym SDLC.

I receive updates once a month. Quality is more important than frequency - I
would be more concerned about frequent updates that did not fully address
issues and had not been fully tested and undergone some degree of UAT (User
Acceptance Testing).
Perhaps this is in response to the Release of FX 2, 2.1, 2.1b, 3, 3.a and
3.b. within the past 6 months. (all be it that 3+ are Beta versions).
You will find the latest publicly available information about Microsoft's
Internet Explorer at the IE Blog
