Screencast: How to find moved threads

We explained in a post how to find threads that have been moved and we have now created a quick screencast to show how to do this in your browser window.

Simply insert /technology after the domain name in your browser window. Make sure you insert and do not delete any of the other parts of the URL. Otherwise you will simply end up at the forum index.

Why didn't we write an .htaccess and redirect people to the original thread?
While this was initially discussed, the structural change is a long term goal of expanding this site. If we create an .htaccess rewrite line then we have not solved the problem with the site using the new file locations. Instead we'll just postpone the challenge. Eventually Google will reindex everything and we'll be fine

How long will it take for Google to reindex?
Expect 5,000-6,000 new posts to be indexed each day. This suggests 90-120 days before the index in Google is correct for the forum posts. We should see the last of the structural change problems by the beginning of June.

Hope the screencast helps anyone getting lost. You may discuss this screencast or the structural changes in the thread posted in the Issues and Feedback forum.
